Digital Operations Manager
Having studied languages at Cardiff University, James is an avid traveller and polyglot, speaking 4 languages fluently and others at a conversational level. After graduating with a 1st Class degree, he spent three years travelling in Mexico and Central America before returning to Wales. His diverse professional background, including roles in teaching, translating, customer service and governance complimented a transition to the world of data and AI, having found an affinity for this work in a data and strategy role in Mexico City.
James’ natural attention to detail and ability to see how those details contribute to the bigger picture allow him to work creatively and meticulously with systems, tools and data to ensure quality and consistency. As an experienced communicator, he’s also passionate about sharing his insights with the world, helping teams progress in the process. So long as the human touch and creativity are at the core of what we do, James believes that AI and data have the potential to revolutionise the way we work.
Away from the office, James loves storytelling, whether it’s through the medium of TV, film, books, video games or podcasts. He also enjoys exploring the Welsh countryside by foot or by bike and can never resist looking for cheap flights or hotel stays.
Quickfire:
1. What’s the craziest thing you’ve done?
At the end of my travels, I spent a week hiking with new friends in the Lacandon Jungle. It was a magical experience and something I’ll never forget.
2. What’s the best thing you’ve spent money on?
Relocating and settling abroad! My experiences there have shaped me into who I am today, and I would never change them for the world.
3. The worst?
A fancy telescope I bought during an intense but short-lived obsession with astronomy. I keep it at my parents’ house so that it’s out of sight but whenever I visit, it stares at me disappointingly.
4. What’s your favourite book?
Project Hail Mary by Andy Weir, I don’t think I’ve ever both laughed and cried so much at a book.
5. If you’re not working, where will we find you?
At a chess board or in the city centre somewhere resisting the urge to buy a sweet treat.
