The Business Secret pt 3 – The Need For Change
In the third section of our book The Business Secret we talk about how a business and its owners need to constantly evolve, and ask you the key question; If someone was to buy your business today, what would they change?
Here at Penguin we’re always asking ourselves this question, particularly over the last 12 months. Its already helped and continues to help us to grow and develop new ideas that benefit our clients. At our recent future day, the team were full of fantastic suggestions and these have given us nothing but positive changes to implement over the next 12 months.
Asking yourself this question gives you the opportunity to view your business from a different perspective. Continuously questioning your decisions, your methods and your processes gives you the tools to improve your culture, profitability, cashflow and time management. If you can identify the small things that you can alter then surely this question is something you should be asking yourself and your team on a regular basis. Questioning your goals and plans enables your business to improve and grow for both you and your customer.
At Penguin we genuinely believe that the worst phrase you can hear within a business is; “It’s the way we’ve always done things here”. When your ideas change so do your methods and just because there’s a specific way you do things it doesn’t necessarily mean it’s the right way.
Regular, structured meetings are a valuable and positive way to keep questioning your journey. A book regularly referred to in The Business Secret is ‘Traction’ by Gino Wickham, this book is a great way to help you run your meetings and ensure maximum impact. ‘Traction’ will help you set 90 day rocks and keep you on track, assuring your meetings are as productive as they can be so that your business continues to evolve.
